Ops Uncovered

Podcast Transcripts

  • “Welcome to Ops Uncovered. I’m Michelle Stone — operations strategist, founder of Stone Ops, creator of The Legacy Path. And before I am any of those things? I’m someone who cares deeply about legacy. If you’re here, I know something about you. You’ve built a business that looks successful on the outside. Clients are coming in, the revenue’s growing, and people probably look at you and think you’ve got it all together. But here’s the truth you may not be saying out loud: behind the scenes, it feels messy. Maybe even chaotic. And sometimes, the business that’s supposed to give you freedom is stealing your presence instead.

This podcast is where we trade hustle for legacy. Where we pull back the curtain on the messy, unfiltered side of business ops — not because operations are sexy, but because they’re what make businesses sustainable. And I chose to launch this podcast on October 17th for a reason. It’s the day my youngest son was born, seven weeks early. I spent weeks in the hospital and then weeks in the NICU, balancing hope and fear in equal measure. And that moment forced me to stop. To really look at the way I was working. And what I realized was this: hustle wasn’t going to build my legacy. My family deserved better. I deserved better. Because legacy isn’t something you wait for someday. Your legacy starts now. Today is day one. And together, we’ll build it stone by stone.

I want to take you back to those days after my son was born. At the time, I had clients waiting on me. My inbox was full. My project boards were a mess. And I had no systems in place that could carry the load without me. What that meant is that the moment life demanded my presence somewhere else — with my family — everything in my business stopped. And that’s when it hit me: my business was fragile. And if a business can’t hold up when life shifts, it’s not a legacy. It’s a liability. But maybe for you, that reality is different. Maybe it’s being present for your older kids who need you in their teenage years. Maybe it’s supporting your spouse through a medical journey. Maybe it’s even you — realizing your own health, your own burnout, is telling you to stop. The point is this: if your business can’t stand when you step away, it’s not sustainable. And that’s when I knew hustle wasn’t my legacy. See, hustle says: Work harder. Push through. Sacrifice now so you can rest later. But here’s the truth: later never comes. And what good is a business if the people who matter most to you only ever get your leftovers? As a mom of three, stepmom of two, and wife of a disabled veteran, I understand that legacy is more than money in the bank. It’s about presence. It’s about building a structure that doesn’t just serve clients but sustains a family. That was my reset. My day one. The beginning of rebuilding differently. And it’s what led to the creation of The Legacy Path. Not a set of tools. Not a software stack. But a way of running a business that’s family-first, sustainable, and scalable. Because systems aren’t about control. They’re about freedom. They give you the breathing room to live your life while still leading your business with confidence.”

[speaker1]: “Now, let’s talk about the cost of chaos. Because if you’re listening to this, there’s a good chance you’ve felt it. Chaos shows up like this: A client email you forgot to respond to because it slipped between the cracks. Repeating yourself for the fifth time because there’s no SOP. Staying up late because you forgot a detail that should have been handled earlier. Spending money on tools you don’t really use because your setup is duct-taped together. And here’s the thing: it doesn’t just cost money. It costs something much deeper. It costs you peace of mind. It costs you your evenings. It costs you your ability to be present with your kids, your spouse, yourself. I’ve sat across from clients who were in tears because their business felt like quicksand — every time they moved, they sank deeper. And you know what they all told me? It wasn’t that they didn’t love their work. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to grow. It was that the chaos was stealing their energy, their creativity, and their presence. Chaos is expensive. But here’s the hope: it doesn’t have to stay that way. When you build systems, you shift from reactive to proactive. From firefighting every day → to leading with clarity. From exhausted and stretched thin → to confident and calm. And that’s why we can’t just talk about hustle. Because hustle doesn’t solve chaos. Hustle covers it up — until one day, everything stops. But legacy? Legacy is about building on purpose. Stone by stone. Brick by brick. In a way that lasts.

So let’s talk about the promise of legacy. I believe this with my whole heart: growth without sacrifice is possible. When you build on family-first systems, everything changes: You scale sustainably without burning out. You trust your business to run even when you need to step away. You reclaim evenings and weekends without guilt. You stop worrying that one unexpected life event will undo everything. That’s what I call the Legacy Promise. It’s not about perfection. It’s not about having every system built on day one. It’s about starting now. With one system. One choice. One commitment to doing business differently. Because your legacy doesn’t start when you hit seven figures. It doesn’t start when the kids are older. It doesn’t start when life is ‘less busy.’ Your legacy starts now. Today is day one. And we’ll build it together, stone by stone.

Your Legacy Resource for today is the Family-First Business Audit. It’s a 5-minute self-assessment that shows you exactly where chaos is costing you time, energy, and presence — and the first step to streamlining for freedom. You can grab it at the link below. Because your legacy starts now.
Here’s what you can expect from this podcast going forward. Every Friday, I’ll bring you short, actionable episodes. Legacy Lessons: conversations with other mothers who are building businesses that last. Always simple. Always practical. No jargon. No overwhelm. Just the truth, uncovered. Because you don’t need more noise. You need clarity, confidence, and systems that support your life, not steal from it.

So before we wrap up today, I want to leave you with this question: What do you want your business legacy to be? One that drains you, demands everything, and leaves you with nothing left for your family? Or one that fuels your life, creates breathing room, and builds something that will last? You don’t have to wait to choose. Today can be your day one. Your legacy starts now. And I’m here to help you build it, stone by stone.
